Well it is a day before our departure to Belgrade. My bike is in the bike bag (with help from Dan lending an extra hand last night), and Erin and I made final decisions about our collective bike tools and first aid. Between completing some final work tasks and finishing up packing, I wanted to share a general overview of our upcoming route.
We are flying out of Oakland tomorrow and arriving in Belgrade, Serbia around 8pm local time. We will have three days to explore Belgrade before traveling by bike and train in a general counterclockwise direction along the Danube and through Romania until we return to Belgrade on September 21. Below is a snap shot of our planned bike tour routes (and two alternative routes) in red while the gaps in between will be by train.
We will start riding east from Belgrade along the Danube and along the EuroVelo 6 bike route on which we expect to see numerous touring cyclists. Then we will cross into Romania and take trains from Drobeta-Turnu Severin to Sibiu - getting to enjoy the scenery up and over the Carpathian Mountains and into Transylvania.
We will have a couple days in Sibiu and Sighisoara while on our course north into the even more rural area of Maramures. Then we will take a train from Baia Mare to Timisoara and have a final day or two on the bike from Timisoara back into Serbia. This is the plan at least. We will see where the journey takes us!

Looks amazing, can't wait to see and hear more!
